Bootstrapping Versus Venture: The Honest Trade-Off

Neither path is morally superior. They are different machines for different outcomes.

The internet turns this into a values war. Bootstrappers are disciplined; venture founders are reckless. Both caricatures are useless.

Venture capital buys speed at the cost of control. Bootstrapping buys control at the cost of speed. That is the entire trade.

The right choice depends on the shape of the opportunity, not the founder's self-image.

A Simple Test

If the market is won by whoever scales fastest, capital is a weapon and refusing it is a handicap.

If the market rewards margins and patience, raising too much just adds pressure to grow faster than you should.
